Recent News:-
Congratulations!
Congratulations to Jenny and Ayden on the birth of their little boy, Max. Jenny has become a valuable member of the team here at Pike Moor Vets. While she will, of course, be missed during her maternity leave, we are all delighted for her.
A Most Unusual Patient
This beautiful kingfisher was brought in to the Horwich surgery recently. After a short stay to recuperate it was successfully released back into the wild.
A Generous Gift!
Many thanks to Mrs T. for her very kind donation to Pike Moor Vets which has enabled us to purchase a new PetMAP blood pressure monitor. This will allow us to perform this vital test more easily, with less stress to patients and at a considerably lower cost than would otherwise have been the case. High blood pressure can cause strokes, heart disease, retinal haemorrhage or detachement and hence blindess and accelerated kidney disease. This clinically valuable piece of equipment will certainly help prevent disease and suffering and save lives in our patients.
Kestrel Takes Flight Again
Many thanks to PJD for keeping us informed of the progress of the injured kestrel he found on his property. The kestrel was brought to the Westhoughton surgery in March and then taken to Turbary Woods Owl and Bird of Prey Sanctuary to recouperate. In April it was returned to home territory and took to the air straight away.
Thank you Lorna
Many thanks to Lorna for coming back to help us on reception at the Westhoughton surgery recently. Staff and customers have enjoyed having her happy, calm manner back behind the desk. We send our best wishes to Lorna and Dennis as she now takes a well-earned rest.

Staff Changes
Welcome back to Sally Woodward who rejoins the nursing team at the Horwich surgery after her maternity leave. We are all delighted to have Sally working along side us once again.
It was with some sadness that we announced that Clare Fisher MA VetMB MRCVS
had ceased practising as a veterinary surgeon. Some time ago Clare decided that she would like to devote more of her time to helping her husband with his growing business and to her work with the Church.
Iona Mathieson BVMS MRCVS joined the team here and has settled in nicely. Her studies in her special interest of ophthalmology are progressing well and Iona aims to become a fully qualified veterinary ophthalmologist in due course. Iona is already seeing some ophthalmology cases referred by nearby veterinary practises.
We have also been joined by veterinary nurse Jenny Zorlutuna while other members of staff are away on maternity and sick leave.
Vet/Receptionist of the Year?
One of our vets (who declined to be named - for now!) and one of our Westhoughton receptionists (Gillian) have each received nominations for Vet Of The Year and Veterinary Receptionist Of The Year respectively. This is a great complement, especially following the nomination of another of the vets last year. Many thanks to the nominators of these positions for their kind consideration and for taking the time to do so.
